Indoor Courts

July-22-11

Ken cartoon smilingPresident’s Report

Indoor Courts for the Brampton Men’s Horseshoe Club.

In 2003 Elwood Pembleton and Ken Condie met with Harvey Newlove Director Recreation Facilities, Gene Duval Manager Recreation Facilities and Jamie Tufts District Foreman Parks, at that time we brought up many items that we would like to transpire over the next few years regarding the future of the BMHC. One of the items was for an indoor facility to allow us to play 12 months of the year. Ken submitted a layout, and how it could be used as a multiple purpose facility. We continued to have talks over the years and once again in 2007 Mike Ryde and Ken after meeting with Gene Duval drew up a new proposed layout. Since then we have had talks with Jamie Lowery Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, and came away from the meetings with a positive outlook.

On July 11, 2011 John Moulton a member of our club setup a meeting with John Sanderson Regional Councillor, Donna – Lynn Rosa Director of Recreation, Don Doan Manager – Program Support, attending from our club Ken Condie, Mike Ryde, John Moulton and Earl Vanderhart. Mike and Ken was the spokesman for our club, as we presented our proposal and updated them of past meetings regarding indoor courts.

On Tuesday July 12th Donna – Lynn made a surprise visit to our club and I gave her a tour of what our club members have accomplished over the years, she was introduced at that time to many of our executive members., She had great news for us, and wanted to tell me in person, she later sent me the email below:

Ken it was great to see you and your site last night…..I’m pretty sure that is one of the most beautiful locations in Brampton!!!!

As I mentioned Council approved the ten year capital plan last year with the plan for the indoor courts as part of it. We have it tracking for 2014, but as with any project we are constantly mindful of opportunities to expedite. Thanks for your warm welcome and I will visit your web site today. Donna-Lynn

Once again I was impressed (but not surprised) how approachable the members of Council and the people managing the Parks and Recreation Department and their staff are.

Teams Finalized for the 2011 Season

May-20-11

Ken cartoon smilingThe executive met on Thursday May 19th to review the teams. No changes were made in the "A" Division, couple of changes in the "B" Division; many changes took place in the "C" and "D" Division. After reviewing the current standings, after 3 weeks of play, and the weather conditions, that we were forced to play under, it was decided to start the season next week. All divisions will start at Zero points, your individual records will stand. The meeting lasted for 2 1/2 hours, and there was a lot of input by all 10 of the executive, and we felt all the moves and starting the season, was in the best interest of the club, giving every team a chance to win
